Tokyo eats

Looks like I spent my entire Japan trip taking photos of food... so here are my top 3 picks from everything I ate in Tokyo during the 5 days!

#3   Gramercy New York tart topped with an generousdose of my favorite brand of Japanese strawberries.  It's like heaven on a crust. mmmmmm....

#2   本城 is a restaurant located in Setagaya-ward serving beautiful authentic Japanese food. It's a pretty small place and I hear you need reservations weeks in advance for lunch. Lucky for me my mom is friends with the owner, I get to visit every time I travel home. But each visit is always different from the last as every dish is meticulously designed to serve the best ingredients of that season in the best way possible.

#1    I had a dinner party to see all my friend in Tokyo and one of them booked the 石頭楼 for me.  It's a very popular sesame oil steamboat restaurant and the food was so perfectly delicious for a cold winter night.  Only problem, they're located inside a condo with no signs and almost impossible to find. So good luck ;)

Hokkaido seafood!

I guess my Japan week is turning into food week ;) And here comes more! So obviously we had to have seafood in Hokkaido.  We stumbled upon this restaurant かみ磯 where they serve live squid. It can't get fresher then the chef pulling a squid out of the tank and preparing it in front of you eyes :)

Next day we headed to the Nijo Fishmarket for some souvenir shopping and lunch. Instead of the famous seafood bowls we went to a little area behind one of the shops where owner serve you fresh seafood you select from the shop.  She cooks it up for you in her little kitchen and everything was amazing.

Sapporo Bier Garten

On the second day of our Hokkaido trip we headed into the city of Sapporo. One of the places we really enjoyed was the Sapporo Bier Garten! It's a museum plus three restaurants located inside the old Sapporo beer factory.

You can learn the history of Sapporo beer and also of the city itself.  But the best part was hands down the Genghis Khan grill they serve in their giant beer hall.  It's a lamb barbeque with veggies and it's one of Hokkaido's signature food. Beer lovers and meat eaters, knock yourself out cause it's free flow!!!

Hokkaido: Jyozankei

Welcome to Japan week! I recently took a week off and traveled home to Japan so I have lots of photos to share. I'm going to begin with my 3 day mini holiday in Hokkaido with my husband. Our trip started with a beautiful day in an area called 定山渓 (Jyozankei).
Jyozankei is very convenient if are visiting Sapporo but want to squeeze in a ski day or a stay at the hot spring resorts away from the city. We wanted to do both and headed first to the Sapporo Kokusai Skiing Resort
After an intense afternoon ski session, we took a 30 minute bus ride to an amazing hot spring resort called Jyozankei Daiichi Hotel.  There was a hot spring bath with a snow mountain view right in our room! ぜいたく~ Great food, staff and rooms! I super recommend it!!!

I'll be back tomorrow with my day in Sapporo city!

I returned to Singapore from the zero degrees winter of Japan with a big fat flu...  It's been a while since I've been coughing and sniffing this much and I'm just glad the work week is finally over!  In case you have a friend suffering from a cold, here are some cute cards you can send them from Paperless Post. Hope you have a lovely weekend and please look forward to my Japan trip posts next week :)

Reversed Volumes

Reversed Volumes is a collection of 'delicious' ceramic bowls designed by the Vienna based designers, mischer'traxler. Each bowl is shaped by capturing the imprint of a fruit or vegetable and it's surface pattern is presented beautifully.

The artichoke is my fave!!
