Inspired by: Heritage 2013

One of the most memorable installations I experienced in the past 5 years has to be the pack of wolves running into a glass wall in the 'Head On' by Cai Guo-Qiang.  I'm not surprised I was instantly drawn to the images popping up online of his new project, 'Heritage 2013'. That's 99 animal replicas gathered around the pool for a drink. Hope I get to see it!!!

So this is Heritage 2006.  It looks insane but the wolves are pretty cute up close with comical expressions.

Happy Weekend!

Lazy Wood Slice

One of the most important missions for designers today is to make beautiful things while being kind to the mother earth. Lazy Wood Slice by Davide Magni is one of those. It's made with recycled wood from damaged trees and the process helps to clear the forest without having to cut healthy trees.

Weekend Love: The Anniversary Lunch

Today is my 2nd wedding anniversary! woot woot. My husband and I decided to go casual this year so we celebrated by stuffing ourselves at the Marriott Singapore's weekend buffet lunch.
I'm a fan of Basilico and the Line when it comes to hotel lunch buffets in Singapore but sometimes they can feel a bit over the top. This is a more compact spread & value-for-money option. If they've got parma ham and lobsters, I've got no complaints :)

50% off for 2 diner with amex!

Creative and whimsical graphical interpretations from The Friday Project by Stephen Wildish. It's a really fun page to visit so don't miss it! My favorite is the Marshmallow!! It was a bit too long to post here so here's another favorite from the fairytale series.

It's been an inspiring week :) Happy weekend!!

Weekend Love: Gillman Barracks

I visited the U Factory at the Gillman Barracks on Saturday, which is currently exhibiting the works of Japanese designer Shigeki Fujishiro titled Frames

It's so exciting to walk in to this room with levitating geometric frames spinning freely, creating an even more interest set of shadows. Then you realize the meticulous construction of it and how perfectly the frames are balanced on transparent strings. This is definitely an exhibition you have to experience in person.

The birth of "mobile" appeared as part of a new art concept known as kinetic art. Artists such as Marcel Duchamp and Alexander Calder found ways to express both space and time enabled by motions. The frames I've designed are heavily influenced by their works adding more of a graphical touch. By applying transparent strings the frames look as if they are floating. Another feature is the spacial effect made by the shadows.

You have 1 week left to catch it in Singapore!
