Textile design

I never really gave thought to the amount of design work behind textile patterns. We can appreciate the design of the dress but we rarely consider the fabric as being someone's work of art at one point. But today I learned from Helen of Working Girl Design who introduces the design process of her prints on her beautiful blog. It's so refreshing and inspiring to see the creative process of designers in other fields! I have a new found respect for floral patterns ;)

Knotty

The Knitted Stool I introduced last year is still one of my favorite items.  I just love the chunky comfy feel. Recently I found something similar and even cuter. The Knotty floor cushion by Ku me ko!

Birthday Jello

I usually bake a cake for my husband's birthday but since the party was on Sentosa beach this year, I thought jello shots will be more refreshing and fun. Besides the big champagne jello replacing the cake, I made bite sized jellos to pass around. Mandarin vodka and plum wine flavor. I want to share the recipe for these because they were super easy to make.

Mandarin Vodka Jello
Absolut Mandarin                        100ml
water                                          100m
Gelatin                                        1.5 sheets (2.5g)
Mandarin oranges (can)                optional

1. Add gelatin to hot water (must soak in water first if your are using gelatin sheets) and mix until it dissolves. Let cool
2. Add vodka and mix.
3. Pour the mix in a mold over mandarin oranges and let cool until set.

Plum Wine Jello
Plum wine (I used choya)             100ml
water                                          100ml
Honey                                         1 Table spoon
Gelatin                                        1.5 sheets (2.5g)

1. Bring water to boil. Add honey and stir. Let cool
2. Add gelatin (must soak in water first if your are using gelatin sheets) and mix until it dissolves.
3. Add plum wine and mix.
4. Pour the mix in a mold and let cool until set. I chilled mine overnight.

The dream house

Considering I have an architecture degree and work at an architecture firm, most friends who visit my blog for the first time are surprised to see so little on the topic. It never even crossed my mind but since it's been brought to my attention and because suddenly this post seemed out of place, I felt like it needed an introduction.  Yes, I'm bringing you images of a house.

Majority of my posts are on things that make me say,"Oh! I want!!" or "darn it, why didn't I think of that!" and today I found a house that made me say "I WANT"... unfortunately it's located in Australia and not available online like most things I introduce so it will have to stay a dream house.  and I will have to work for another five hundred years to recreate this in Singapore ;)  I see plenty of images of beautiful/ unique/ exciting contemporary houses but I rarely connect to it enough to visualize myself and family living that space.  Maybe the feeling is similar to the unhappy hipsters I introduced before. But this house I love.  It's a renovation and extension project in Sydney by Smart Design Studio.  I think most of all I'm in love with the outdoor space and all the interior spaces connected to it.

I'll eat breakfast here everyday.

Group Therapy

This week, my Sunday brunch was at the Group Therapy Cafe on Duxton. It's located on the second floor of a shophouse with just a small sign outside leading you to a dark staircase. I'm sure most people will walk past without realizing it's there.  I had a relaxing meal with my girlfriends on the cute mismatched sofas.  It's one of those places that feels like a friends house and you can spend hours just hanging out.  We all enjoyed the food too. I especially liked the salad dressing ;)

I had the DIY instructions for a knit pouf cushions by Pickles bookmarked for months now... dreaming that one day I can post a photo of my own.  Yea, it's not happening. So I'm just gonna go ahead and introduce these in hopes that someone out there who can knit will make me one in hot pink!

TouchRetouch

I just discovered this amazing photo app called the TouchRetouch. Basically it allows you to instantly erase unwanted objects in your photo with just a touch of your finger on an iPhone or iPad. I tried it on a pretty hard photo to edit but turned out pretty good ;)

Vua lah, and the man is gone!!!
