scatter shelf

day 2 of my japan week.  The scatter shelf by the japanese design studio, nendo, "is composed of 5mm black acrylic shelves in a grid form, stacked in three layers and slightly displaced. The resulting shelving unit is not only structurally strong but creates a visual effect in which objects placed on the shelves appear as though caught in a spider’s web when viewed from the front."

"When viewed on an angle, the glossy acrylic face creates a series of reflections within the shelves, making the ‘opaque’ acrylic appear to be transparent. The diffused reflections caused by the surfaces’ shine and form also separates and scatters the view behind the shelving unit, creating a completely kaleidoscopic effect."

japan design traveller

i am going to have a japan week and post the latest finds from my home country for the next few days. starting off with a series of magazine that provides travel information for all 47 prefectures in japan from a design viewpoint. d design travel is a project by D&DEPARTMENT PROJECT launched in 2009.  it introduces one prefecture per issue, packed with information so you can be exposed to the best design each area has to offer.  so far they have published 5 issues and the 6th issue will be out on 5th september.

the requirements for places/items/ideas/experiences introduced in each issue are that they are: 

1. unique to that area

2. created/performed by a local

3. conveys a message or experience unique to the area

4. accessible 

5. creative 

wish every city in the world had one of these ;)

maybe most people visit the cathay for the movies but i like the zakka shops there. i just stopped by to roam around three very cute shops.

not just cushy cushions

i love unique cushion covers. cushions are the best accent for a living room and i've been seeing some beautiful designs online recently.  since my sofa is already full, i'm just gonna post them here...  you can't buy new furniture so often but you can make your room dramatically change by just adding new cushion :)  i chose ones that have strong presence and will add character to any room.

i've been looking at hundreds of wedding dresses over the past few months but this is by far the "sweetest!"  a dress completely made of cake by Lukka Sigurdardottir.

OMG... these are all miniatures!?!?  believe it or not, everything you see in the photos are amazing miniature furnitures that fit into a dollhouse, all created or collected by Christine Ferrara. you need to check out her blog to see.  i love the very accurate mies furniture!

rita design

this was created for a design show held in montreal few years back, but i just came across it and thought it's really funny so had to post it.  it's rita's living room by rita design.  the installation made completely out of wood represents a typical Québec living room which mixes different styles from different times.

this does not look comfortable at all.

dior eye palette

i just received this dior eye palette as a gift from my very good friend and i'm so in love with it.   the case color is beautiful and i'm a fan of this cannage design with embroidered crisscross lines. the color palette offers a pretty wide variety.  they're chic colors you can use for anyday.  but i really don't want to use it and rub the lines away....

gotta carry it in my matching bag ;)

After seeing their website, I knew immediately that bistro soori is the perfect location for my birthday dinner with friends. It’s a small restaurant with sophisticated and stylish modern décor but it still holds a cosy ambiance. almost felt like a home dinner party. i was happy to receive great responses from my friends over the food.  it's only been two days but i'm already craving the lamb i had as the main course... and i'm definitely coming back to try their sunday brunch!

we all loved the desserts!

weeks ago, i posted the invitation card i designed for my own weddings which will take place in two different cities... well i changed my mind last minute and decided to start all over.  i went for something more original and fun.  puts me a bit behind schedule but i'm totally happy :)
